OpenOffice is better than Microsoft Office

Computer Keyboard Shortcuts or Hotkeys

Keyboard shortcuts or sometimes we called hotkeys can be activated by pressing one or more keys together. Keyboard shortcuts can help you save time by doing some task with quick and shorter way, in shorter words, it was better than using the mouse to access the menus. Generally there is two kind of keyboard shortcuts in the computer world, the common and the specific keyboard shortcuts.

The common shortcuts is a shortcut that most frequently used for the same purpose. For example F1 key for showing the application software help, or CTRL+C keys to copy a selected text. Whereas specific shortcuts is a shortcut that applies only to certain software, or in other words for the same shortcut keys will produce different tasks in different software. For example if we press the F4 key in Microsoft Word will do repeat the last command, while the F4 button on the Adobe Acrobat Reader will show/hide the navigation bar.

   

Knowledge and use of keyboard shortcuts when working with a software would simplify and expedite the completion of work. But be careful that excess can backfire, when you are too tired after typing a dozens of pages for 48 hours straight and then you fall asleep for a moment on your keyboard and accidentally pressed the keys CTRL+A, then A button for awhile, and last the CTRL+S keys. So that all your work for 48 hours just to live a lot of letters “A” because the software that you use does not have the “Undo After Save” facility nor you do not enable it.

Note:
Generally CTRL+A keys will carry select all text, while CTRL+S will save the document.

Faster Document Editing with Microsoft Word

We often use microsoft word to creating and editing text documents. But a lot of ways, techniques and  ”style” that we were not used because we don’t know yet. For example, when we have typed the phrase “always go forward”, and after that we realize that we want it in capital letters, so what we do about it?

Most would do: erase the sentence completely, press the Caps Lock button (and make sure on), and then re-type the sentence with a capital letter. :) When the faster way: block the sentence, then press SHIFT+F3 until the sentence is accordance with our wishes. By pressing the SHIFT+F3 key, it would change the sentence from “always go forward”, to “Always Go Forward” and “ALWAYS GO FORWARD”.

There are still many secrets of Microsoft Word keyboard shortcut that we have not actually used, such as:

  • CTRL+] and CTRL+[ to grow and shrink font one point
  • CTRL+1, CTRL+2, CTRL+5 to create a paragraph with 1 space, 2 spaces or 1.5 spaces
  • CTRL+SHIFT+= and CTRL+= to make superscript (example: base <sup>power</sup>) and subscript text (example: base <sub>index</sub>)
  • Use the CTRL Y, F4 or ALT ENTER to perform the last command. This method will be very effective if there is to be done repeatedly, especially for formatting text.

How To Speed Up Your Computer Performance Easily

Generally computer performance was influenced by processor, RAM, VGA and hard disk. I have several ways to keep and speed up my computer performance :

 

  1. Check your computer for any spyware, virus, adware or any other parasite program.

     
  2. Install one anti-virus only on your computer. If available, update the anti-virus daily. Using more than one anti-virus will lead to memory (RAM) consumption and conflict between it.

     
  3. Don’t run too many programs simultaneously. It will consume more memories (RAM) and spend time for swapping data from virtual memory on your hard disk to RAM, and from RAM to virtual memory. Close any unnecessary application and let you work with main application only.

     
  4. Reduce or limit the number of start-up program. (See above). If exist any start up program that can run manually, remove it from start up and you may load it only when you really need it.

     
  5. Uninstall every unnecessary program. If you do that, you will reduce memory consumption by unnecessary program and at least you will gain more space on your hard disk.

     
  6. Delete old temporary files. It will become helpful if you run out of space.

     
  7. Update computer program and driver regularly. So that program or driver did not run under compatible mode.

     
  8. Don’t place too many shortcuts or files on your desktop. The Operating system will need more extra time when it need to refresh the desktop.

     
  9. Use Disk Defragmenter regularly. File fragmentation will make file loading process slower. You can fix it with Disk Defragmenter tool.

     
  10. Set the initial size of virtual memory at least to the number that recommended by the operating system. So when it need to grow, it will not make too many fragmentation.

     
  11. If available, Place the virtual memory and the system temporary folder in one special drive. So it will not intrude the file fragmentation on another drive.

     
  12. Use separate drive for both the operation system files and the data files. It will reduce the file fragmentation probability.

     
  13. Immediately eject any CDs/DVDs and also unplug any USB or other media after you use it. It will reduce the frequent of media detection by the operating system or also by anti-virus scanning.

     
  14. Do not doing install-uninstall programs too often. It may harm your computer operating system, the registry at least. Use registry cleaner program to fix it. The other way, you can save system configuration before you installing any test software and restore it immediately after you done.

     
  15. Disable all animations, wallpaper, sound effects, or any multimedia aspects that you do not work with it.

     

If all tips above doesn’t work with your computer, I have one last tip that the most powerful and easiest way to speed up your computer: sell it and buy a new one. :D

How to open or exctract .DAA files ???

If you have a problem to open or exctract .DAA files, you can use daa2iso proram. daa2iso is a small program with the ability to convert the .DAA files into an ISO files. Once you convert the .DAA files into an ISO files, you need not to worry anymore, because there are so many programs that available to open the ISO files. For example you can use imgburn or Nero CD burner that can write directly to CD / DVD, or you can use a compression / decompression program like PowerArchiver 2007.

What you need to do first is to download daa2iso.ZIP file that made by Luigi Auriemna right here. After that, extract the files in daa2iso.ZIP and run the daa2iso.EXE file. Even if the display is a simple program (using command line), but the program ability does not need to doubt.
